How to Get Up and Down

Recently, several people I know stumbled and fell, myself included. We all sustained injuries, some worse than others. All of us lead active lifestyles. The fact is, we live in an uneven environment. Dirt roads, uneven steps, broken concrete, street dogs and more threaten to trip us every time we step outside, whether we exercise or not.

When this happens, we could be alone and without someone to help us get up. We may not have something nearby that we can use to pull ourselves up from the ground. We might have an injury that prevents us from kneeling.

That’s why I recommend watching this video and practicing the spiral-to-stand maneuver at home. Even if you don’t fall, it’s an easy, graceful way to get up and down from the floor.

And of course, I recommend a regular yoga practice that includes core strength, balance and agility poses to help you stay upright.
